RARE!!, Izhevsk, M44 Mosin Nagant Pre-production trial's run rifle (Finnish marked), Cal: 7.62x54mmR, MFG: 1943, S/N: T469, Bolt action rifle, 20 '' barrel.
HISTORY: This is a Pre-production M44 Mosin-Nagant that were made just before they were formally adopted. A estimated 50,000 total were made in 1943 for the final field & troop trials before it adopted & went into full production the next year in 1944. This rifle also bears a Finnish army '' Suomen Armeija'' property mark. The barrel shank is marked ''D'' on the chamber indicating the throat of the chamber was reamed out to accept the longer D166 bullet Finland was using in their ammo while also still being able to use captured Russian ammo.
CONDITION: The straight wrist arctic birch stock is very good near excellent, as being lightly sanded & re-finished with only light superficial nicks & dings visible. Some light finish wear on the forend & wrist where its handled. One small grain pop on the left side of the forend by the sling well. The metal carries a arsenal re-finish leaving some markings thinned or faded (some are just poorly struck as well). The receiver & barrel also show rough machining marks from rushed mid war production, normal to see. The metal has toned to a mix of thinned blue & gun metal gray with speckles of brown patina on the receiver. The barrel shank is marked with a hammer & sickle in a wheat wreath over ''T'', over ''D'', over ''1943r'', over the S/N, over a arrow inside a triangle, ''SA'' in a box, another ''D'', as well as other proofs. The barrel bands have arrow in triangle stamps. S/N mismatched bolt (87117) as well as all the components of the bolt being mismatched to each other, & all other S/N marked parts(common on finish re-arsenaled guns). The bore is good. beginning to darken with light roughness throughout the bore. The barrel holds a post front sight with protective globe. The rear sight is a tangent U-notch marked 1 to 10. The stock carries a blued steel buttplate, toned to a mix of thinned blue, brown patina & gun metal gray. The stock has both factory sling wells as well as a added rear loop in the belly of the stock (unknown if its Finnish or after the fact). Rifle has a cleaning rod & the affixed, folding cruciform bayonet. Mechanical function appears solid. a rare & unique Mosin being both a early field trials rifle & being Finnish captured. FFL or C&R Req - Value: 600 to 1200
