Koishikawa (Tokyo) Arsenal, Type 38, Cal: 6.5x50mmSR, MFG: 1920's, S/N: 1646835 (pre series), Bolt action rifle, 31 '' barrel
CONDITION: The semi-pistol grip Japanese beech (Buna) stock is very good with numerus nicks, dings, gouges, & scratches from use. Dark spots & scratches from added oils over time. Two-piece Japanese buttstock. Two cartouches on the bottom of the stock, one on the wrist & one in the belly. The metal carries a beautiful arsenal re-blue with the receiver markings only being lightly thinned. The finish on the receiver rates 97% with spots light thinning & wear from use. The barrel's finish rates 96% with light wear & thinning near the muzzle. The receiver band is marked with a INTACT chrysanthemum (Most were ground off when surrendered rifles as a face-saving gesture), over ''TYPE 38'' in Japanese. The top rear of the receiver is marked with a triangle in circle proof & a circle proof. The left side of the receiver is marked with the S/N, the Tokyo arsenal logo, & Japanese inspectors marks. The left side of the chamber is marked with a triangle in a circle & ''S'' proof. S/N mismatched bolt & front barrel band. Bolt gets stuck to the rear of its travel from old grease, bolt internals have old caked on grease as well. The bore is good. It's bright & shiny with thinned rifling throughout with more thinning at the muzzle, & light continuous roughness throughout. The barrel holds a barleycorn front sight & a flip up ladder, V-notch rear sight marked 4 to 24. The stock carries a blued steel buttplate that's toned to a mix of gun metal gray & brown patina with blue remining on upper extension & the edges, plate also has rust & roughness. The rifle has the factory sling loops & has a cleaning rod. Rifle comes with a unmarked hooked quillon type 30 Bayonet & sheath. The bayonet has been buffed & cleaned which likely obliterated the MFG marking as the quality of the bayonet is of a military made one & not of a school made bayonet. Mechanical function appears solid. FFL or C&R Req - Value: 400 to 800
