Smith & Wesson, US Army Model 1917, CAL: 45 ACP, MFG: June 1918, SN: 73220, DA/SA Revolver, 5 1/2'' Barrel. The authentic bone grips which appear to be shaped & cut to look like stag are very good, near excellent with some age soiling & discoloration. The metal holds a re-blued finish, maybe an arsenal refinish, that covers up speckled clean shallow pitting throughout. The finish has retained nearly full coverage & rates approximately 95%. The top of the barrel is marked with standard address & patent dates. The bottom of the barrel is marked ''UNITED STATES PROPERTY''. The left side of the barrel is marked ''S&W D.A. 45''. The left side of the frame above the trigger guard has a ''EAGLE HEAD'' over a very faint, non-legible ''S9'' proof & there's a ''FLAMING BOMB'' proof in front of the hammer. There are multiple British Commercial proof marks on the cylinder, right side of the frame & caliber marking on the right side of the barrel. The butt is marked ''U.S ARMY MODEL 1917 NO 73220''. Bore is fair, the rifling is slightly thinned & slightly darkened with light even roughness throughout. Mechanically solid, seems to function well. The barrel holds a fixed front sight, a rear sight notch is cut into the top of the frame. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 500 to 1000
