VERY SCARCE COLT Model 1883 Burgess Rifle, .44/40 Cal., MFG 1883-85, SN: 1939, Lever Action Rifle, 25 1/2'' Octagon barrel. The original wood stocks are very good & solid. The forearm has a 4 1/2'' x 1'' inlaid wood repair on the right side. The stocks look like they were cleaned or lightly sanded & reoiled, likely at the time of the forearm repair. The stocks have a few other minor scrapes & contusions. The original metal blue finish on barrel & mag has toned to an even brown patina, while the receiver has worn mostly gun metal gray, with a thin later of brown patina & some remnants of original blue. Has an engraved Rampant Colt on left side of receiver. There is faded remains of case-colors on the lever & hammer. Bore is good, but with lots of pitting amongst strong lands & grooves. Fitted with adj. rear sight & long silver blade front sight. Stock is fitted with a sliding trap door crescent steel buttplate. With total production figures of 6,403 carbines & rifles combined, this rifle is a very rare example of an early lever. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 2000 to 5000
