RARE Sharps Rifle Manuf'g Co., Model 1874 Military Rifle, CAL: 50-70, MFG: 1871-77, SN: C51711, Lever Action Breech Loading Rifle, 30'' barrel. The Sharps Model 1874 is actually a misnomer, the gun was introduced in 1871 & remained in production into the late 1870's. There were around 1,800 Model 1874 military rifles reportedly manufactured from 1871-77, possibly a few more during the next couple of years. Rifles seen in this range were usually assembled using remaining parts from the New Model 1859-1863 series. The barrel is stamped in three lines ahead of the sight ''SHARPS RIFLE MANUFG. CO HARTFORD CONN'', behind the sight ''NEW MODEL'' & the barrel collar is stamped ''F'' over ''28''. The left side of the receiver carries the patent stamp in two lines ''C. SHARPS PAT SEPT 12TH 1848''. The straight grip wood stock & full-length forend are very good & solid. There are numerous minor scratches, scrapes, nicks & dings to the buttstock, with a gouge ahead of the rear sling loop that has a couple of hole rills which appear to be from previous rear sling loop. The refinished full-length forend has minor scrapes, dings & an edge chip next to the furthest band. The metal has fully worn to gun metal grey, with spotting toned to brown patina. Bore is good, with pitting amongst strong rifling. The barrel holds a R.S Lawrence patented rear ladder sight & pinched blade front sight. Stock carries a crescent metal buttplate. A rare example of a 1874 Sharps Military Rifle. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 2000 to 4000
