E. Remington & Sons, Rolling Block Shotgun Model No.1, CAL: 16GA Brass or 20GA Paper, MFG: 1870's - 90's, SN: N/A, Single Shot Rolling Block Rifle, 32'' barrel. These interesting shotguns were able to fire two different cartridges. There were two basic models, with Remington's usual ''No. 1'' & ''No. 2'' designations. They were made on the large rifle action with both plain & Damascus barrels of 30'' &32'' length. The No. 1 was made from 1877 to appx. 1893, when the No. 2 was advertised. Production ceased on the No.2 around the mid 1890's. The No.1: a 16 gauge shotgun chambered for interchangeable 16 Brass or 20 gauge paper shells. The No.2 was labeled as a 20 gauge shotgun, still chambered for the same 16 brass or 20 paper, but most of the parts on the No.2's were compiled from military rifle gun parts. The original straight grip wood stocks very good & solid. There are contusions, scrapes & dings amongst a few gouges. The metal finish has worn to a mix metal grey & brown patina, with remnants of blue remaining in protected areas. Bore is good, with consistent roughness & pitting. The barrel holds a single front bead. Smooth metal buttplate. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 300 to 700
