Springfield Armory. Model: 1903 Mark 1. Cal: 30-06. : MFG: 1920. S/N: 1190739. Bolt Action Rifle. 24'' Round Barrel. The straight wrist wooden stock is very good, with light scratches, dings, dents, & wear from use/age, ''J'' marked inside of cutout for magazine cutoff, left side of stock above trigger is marked ''D.A.L'' in box, ''P'' in circle cartouche in bottom of wrist of stock. The metal finish rates 90% overall. Front top of receiver is marked, ''U.S.'', ''SPRINGFIELD ARMORY'', ''MODEL 1903 MARK I'', S/N, Top end of barrel is marked, ''S A'', flaming bomb, ''1-20'', rear barrel band is marked ''U''. Bore is excellent, bright & shiny with strong rifling. Blade/bead Lyman front sight, windage & elevation adjustable U notch ladder rear sight, marked 4 to 27 on top. Metal buttplate, with trapdoor. Bottom sling swivels & stacking swivel, comes with period correct leather sling. Comes with ''RIA'' marked bayonet. only 29,000 of this model were ever made & were meant for use in conjunction with a experimental device called the Pedersen device, it was device made to shoot .30 caliber pistol rounds that would replace the bolt of the 1903 Springfield turning your rifle into a 5 shot rifle, into a 40 shot pistol caliber rifle, the cartridge was known to be weak & the war ended before they saw major use, most of the Pederson devices were destroyed and the majority of the mark 1 rifles were refitted back to the normal model.
