Danzig, Model: 88/05, Cal: 7.92x57mm, MFG: 1891, S/N: 9049Z, Bolt Action Rifle, 29 1/4'' Barrel. The straight wrist wooden stock is very good with scratches/dents & wear from use & age, one ''Y'' stamped into bottom of stock in front of magazine floorplate, faint cartouche on bottom of stock between trigger guard & rear sling swivel, ''3'' stamped into bottom of stock behind rear sling swivel, left side of stock stamped ''3'', three circles impressed to left side of stock, looks to be damage and not factory, two faint cartouches on right side of stock, metal is proud to wood at toe & right side of stock. Metal has toned to a even gun metal gray with brown patina & rust speckling, Receiver's were left in the white (not blued) from the factory, left side of receiver is marked with S/N, ''GEW.88'', ''S'', ''B'', ''D'', top of receiver is marked with, ''S'', Crown over ''DANZIG'', ''1891'' & proof marks, Left side of barrel is marked with S/N, bottom of magazine floorplate is marked ''J'', bolt has Turkish markings on it & S/N on bolt is in Turkish & appears to read ''008'' which makes it a S/N mismatched bolt, left side of rear sight base is marked, ''79'', left side of rear barrel band is marked with X'd out unit markings, left side of front barrel band is marked, ''76.R.4.174.'' which is a unit marking to where this rifle was issued to in the German military. Bore is very good, bright light roughness in spots. Barleycorn front sight, V-notch ladder rear sight that's marked in Turkish which reads ''5'' to ''20'' . Metal buttplate worn to a gun metal gray with spots of light rust. Bottom sling swivels, has cleaning rod. When these guns were updated to the 88/05 pattern they changed the chambers to the updated cartridge dimensions but did not change the barrel, the original round was smaller then the newer round which is what is found today, we recommend getting the bore checked & only hand loading ammo for these rifles with the proper bore dimensions, they are not know to blow up using the bigger sized bullet but will wear out the barrels considerably faster & is not recommended, & the action is not as strong as later designs & is not recommended to fire higher pressure loads through this rifle. Antique No FFL Req. - Value: 300 to 600
