Nambu Company, type 38 navy training rifle CAL: 7.7 x 58mm blanks or special training ammo ONLY, not safe to fire with normal ammo, MFG: 1927-30's, S/N: 17 92 86, Bolt Action Rifle, 31 1/8'' barrel. The semi-pistol grip wood stock is very good with contusions, scratches, scrapes & dings, darkened with oils over time, U shaped crack at wrist of stock emanating from left of upper tang about 3/4'' long, Japanese markings in box on left side of stock, Japanese markings in circle on right side of stock. The metal finish rates 75% overall, with a mix of metal grey & brown patina. Top of receiver is marked with the Japanese imperial navy crest. The magazine floor plate & trigger guard are proud to wood and have rust speckling. The left side of receiver is marked with S/N, S/N matched bolt. Bore is poor, Smoothbore with heavy pitting throughout. The barrel holds a barleycorn front sight & aperture ladder rear sight marked 3 to 17. Buttstock carries a military style buttplate, with brown patina. has cleaning rod but does not come out. This is a training rifle meant for cadets or children getting ready for military service, they were made smoothbore & some have locking lugs on the bolt, some do not, they were NOT made to fire live normal ammunition only blanks & special training ammunition, & are NOT safe to fire normal ammunition out of.
