CASED, Colt, New Frontier S.A.A Ted Buntline Commemorative, CAL: 45, MFG: 1979, SN: NB1603, Single Action Revolver, 12'' barrel. The Colt Buntline Special is a long-barreled variant of the Colt Single Action Army revolver. According to literature, Ned Buntline commissioned the production of six Buntline Specials with 12'' barrels & presented them to five lawmen as well as to Buffalo Bill Cody. Two of the recipients were supposedly Wyatt Earp & Bat Masterson, but there is no record of them ever owning said pistols. This example is one of 3,000 revolvers made to commemorate Ned Buntline. The left side of the barrel is marked ''NED BUNTLINE COMMEMORATIVE'', the top ''COLTS PT. F.A. MFG. Co. HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A.'', the right side is marked ''COLT NEW FRONTIER S.A.A. .45''. The left of the frame is marked in two lines ''PAT. SEPT. 19. 1871 / JULY 2. 72 JAN. 19. 75'' ahead of the Rampant Colt logo. The bottom of the frame is marked ''NB1603'' in front of the trigger guard. The original Colt & American Seal checkered black plastic grips are excellent. The nickel finish is excellent, rating 98%. Bore is excellent. Factory sights. Comes in original wood presentation case, with red velvet interior & sliding drawer. The case has a Ned Buntline commemorative plaque & comes complete with 6 rounds of 45 COLT cartridges. All of the Colt SAA revolvers are collectible, but this Ned Buntline commemorative is a somewhat scarce & very attractive piece, making it a great addition to any Colt based collection.
