RARE Winchester, Model 1866 MEXICAN STAMPED Saddle Ring Carbine, 4th variation, .44 Henry Cal., MFG. 1888, SN: 166118, Lever Action Carbine, 20'' Round barrel, Full mag. Approximately 127,000 M1866 carbines were produced, however few as a percentage made it into Mexico & very few will carry the Mexican crest. The original wood stocks are very good & solid, having been oiled as the original finish was worn thin. The finish has aged appropriately from use & wear. There are several scratches, scrapes & small contusions. There are a tight grain crack along the left side of the stock. Overall the stocks retain a very nice appearance. The metal blue finish barrel & mag has worn & toned a gray & brown patina, with areas of thinning worn to gun metal gray, with some rust pitting. The lever & hammer retain of the original blued finish. The brass receiver was cleaned or polished previously, but have started to again develop an aged patina. The receiver has the Mexican National Crest stamped on the top behind the extraction port. Bore is good, with some areas of roughness amongst strong rifling. The barrel carries the original flip-up rear sight, with 1,3 & 5 markings for 100, 300 & 500 YDS & a carbine box front sight. The address atop the barrel has worn away. Stock carries a trapdoor crescent metal buttplate. Staple mounted saddle ring. The SN is stamped on the lower tang. Tight, smooth action & appears mechanically sound. This rare Mexican 1866 SRC has a nice aged appearance. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 6000 to 12000
