FANTASTIC ENGRAVED Winchester, Model 1873, Third Variation, .38 Cal., MFG. 1886, SN: 216176, Lever Action Rifle, 24 1/4'' Octagon barrel, Full mag. This is a wonderfully custom engraved 1873, reminiscent of the early Winchester patterns done by John Ulrich & Nimschke. The deluxe hand checkered & straight grip wood stocks are excellent. The display beautiful rippled & flame pattern grain, with excellent high gloss finish. The receiver is extensively embellished with highly detailed acanthus scroll work & game scenes on each side. The game vignettes feature a bugling elk on the right & a strolling bear on the left. The engravings are also found on the tangs, barrel, buttplate, dust cover, brass cartridge carrier & forend cap. The major metal surfaces carry 99% coverage of a rich blue/black finish, while the case-hardened lever, hammer & buttplate all display a vivid & fantastic mix of case-colors. The bore is very good, but with scattered roughness & pitting amongst strong rifling. The barrel carries an adjustable rear sight & Rocky Mountain long silver blade front sight. The stock carries a crescent metal sliding trapdoor buttplate. A true wonderful & aesthetically sharp engraved 1873 rifle.* Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 15000 to 25000
