Winchester, Model 1873 First model, .44 WCF Cal., MFG: 1876, SN: 21778, Lever Action Rifle, 24'' Round barrel, Full mag. Early & rare first model, with the early ''Thumb Print'' dust cover. The straight grip wood stocks are excellent, solid & original, with added oils over the original finish. The wood has nicely aged as it has darkened some from use, handling & protective oils. There are a number of minor scrapes, scratches & contusions. The original metal blue finish has an even aged gray/brown patina on the barrel & mag, with some pitting. The receiver carries a spotty thin brown patina, with some remains of original blue in protected areas. Rifle fitted with a Marble flip-up tang sight, a blank filled rear dovetail & long blade front sight. Bore is very good, with some spotty roughness amongst strong rifling. Stock carries a trapdoor crescent metal buttplate. Lever retention lug is a bit lose. Comes with a Cody Winchester Factory Records Letter, which confirms dates & configuration. The rifle has a very nice appearance & is a desirable first model 1873. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 2000 to 5000
