RARE DELUXE Standard Arms, Model G, .35 REM Cal., MFG: 1909-20, SN: 8004, Pump Action & Semi-Auto Rifle, 22'' Round barrel, Philadelphian Morris F. Smith had a number of firearms patents, some of which were rolled into the 1906 patent number 314,242 for a unique ''automatic gas-operated'' rifle, which were used as the basis for the Standard Arms. Other semi auto rifles of the era like Remington & Winchesters relied on blowback & recoil to work their actions, making Smith's ''gas-operated'' rifle unique. The original deluxe checkered & straight grip wood stock on this example is excellent & solid. The stock carries the original finish, with a few small scuffs, scratches & contusions. The wood displays excellent rippled & feathered grain. The forearm & buttplate are of an elaborate cast brass, which were supposedly manufactured & provided to the Standard Arms Co. from the famous House of Tiffany foundry. The brass casting still retain much of the original Japan black finish in the protected background relief. The factory metal blue finish on the barrel & receiver rates 90% & 80% on the pump tube. Bore is excellent. The rifle is fitted with an adjustable rear sight & Lyman half moon blade front sight, with ivory bead. An interesting & rare vintage Semi auto/pump rifle, with approximately 8,000 total produced. Any Standard Arms rifle is fairly rare, but a deluxe example is extremely rare & collectible. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 1500 to 2500
