Description

RARE Weatherby, Model MARK V Deluxe, LEFT HANDED, Marked 257 MAGNUM, MFG. 1967, SN: P23555, Bolt Action Rifle, 24'' Round fast tapered barrel. Early W. German, first series production. The .257 Weatherby Magnum was designed in 1944 & introduced commercially in 1945 by Roy Weatherby, as a wildcat cartridge for chambering in his rifles. Of the calibers Weatherby invented, the .257 WM caliber was known to be his personal favorite. The original cartridges were formed using Winchester's .300 H&H Magnum. It travels 3,870 fps (80 grain bullet), giving you the flattest trajectory of any 25 caliber rifle in the world. Its also capable of firing a 115 gr (7.5 g) Nosler Ballistic Tip bullet at 3,400 ft/s (1,036 m/s) generating 2,952 ftlbs of energy, which is comparable to factory loads of the .30-06 Springfield & the .35 Whelen in terms of energy, meaning it packs a high speed wallop at long distances. The factory Monte Carlo cheeked walnut stock is excellent & original, with early factory skip-line checkering & rosewood/white diamond pistol grip cap & tipped forend. The factory finish is excellent, with minor finish level scuffs, scrapes & scratches, mostly around the trigger guard. The original high luster metal blue finish is 97% on barrel, receiver & floorplate. Bore is excellent, shiny & bright. Mounted with a Leupold Gold Ring 3x9 VERI-X Iic scope & no open sight provisions. Stock carries a White-Line recoil pad. Factory sling studs. The .257 Weatherby makes an ideal pronghorn, medium game species or varmint cartridge. Bluebook states premiums are paid for this caliber, particularly when LEFT HANDED. An overall excellent, high original condition, & vintage Weatherby in a rare collectable caliber.* FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 1400 to 2000
