FANTASTIC ENGRAVED Remington, Model 8 No. 5 Expert Grade or later known as an ''E'' Grade, Custom Shop Rifle, marked .25 Rem., MFG. 1909, SN: 13359, Semi-Auto Rifle, 22'' barrel, This rifle, invented by John Browning, was America's first successful semi auto high-power rifle. 5 shot fixed magazine. These take down rifles were often broken down into the 22'' & 20'' halves & placed into leather cases for train rides to countryside hunts & shoots. The special order rifle has high grade English walnut wood stock & forearm, which are excellent, with nice figure to the grain. Factory checkering is 22 lines-per-inch. The stocks carry the original factory finish, with added oils & show minor handling scuffs, scratches & dings. The inlaid silver initial plate in the belly of the stock is inscribed with art deco initials ''RES''. The original metal blue finish rates 90%, with blue thinning at the carry points of the receiver & barrel. The large receiver side panels are covered with what Remington marketed as ''rich scroll hand engraving & game scenes''. The left side of receiver is engraved with a large standing buck in a grassy meadow. Engraving also found on base of magazine, safety, trigger guard, tangs & barrel jacket. Bore is excellent & bright, with high lands & grooves. Rifle fitted with a Lyman tang sight, folding leaf rear sight & silver bead front blade sight. Tight action & functions as it should. A very rare & highly collectible example of Remington's custom shop talents.* FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 7500 to 12500
