C.S. Shattuck, Model ''American'', CAL: 8 Bore, MFG: circa 1880's, SN: 601, Break Action Single Shot Shotgun, 36'' barrel. The round knob wood stocks are good & solid, having been sanded & refinished at one point. There are two edge chip repairs that meet the receiver/upper tang, two dowel inserts at the wrist & a 5'' grain crack on both sides, starting at the back of the receiver. The browned finish on the damascus twist barrel is very good, with small areas worn to metal grey & visible buff lines. The chamber end of the barrel is blued, toned to a mix of remaining blue, brown patina & metal grey. The receiver is case-hardened, with visible case-colors retained, but mostly toned to a brown patina. Bore is good, still has some brightness, with consistent roughness & visible striations. The front trigger serves as the break lever for the barrel. The barrel holds a single front bead. Stock carries a smooth metal buttplate. For such an early large gauge shotgun, this one is in fairly good shape. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 1000 to 2000
