Warrell Portsmouth, Muzzleloader Shotgun, CAL: 8 Bore, MFG: circa 1830-1840, SN: NSN, SxS Muzzleloading Shotgun, 31 1/4'' barrel. The solid rib is marked ''S.WARRELL PORTSMOUTH'' & both side plates are marked ''WARRELL PORTSMOUTH''. The original, checkered straight grip wood stock is excellent. There are contusions, scratches, scrapes & dings. Protective oils have been added over time contributing to some darker areas. The straight grip has an original checkered palm rest & there is a blank silver square initial plate on the top of the wrist. The metal is slightly proud to the wood at most points of contact. The metal finish has worn to metal grey & toned to a brown patina, with consistent spotting & speckling throughout. The receiver, upper tang, hammers, barrel end, trigger guard, forend metal components & buttplate all display beautiful floral scroll engraving. Bores are very good for such an early black powder shotgun, they are consistently rough, with some intermittent pitting. The solid rib holds a single front bead. Stock carries a smooth metal decorative buttplate. Double triggers. Overall this very early muzzleloader presents very well & would be a nice addition to a shotgun collection. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 1400 to 2800
