W.C Scott & Son, Hammer Double, CAL: 8 Bore, MFG: 1872, SN: 16935, Rotary Underlever Break Action SxS Shotgun, 32 1/4'' barrels. The rib is stamped ''W&C SCOTT & SON LONDON'' & both side lock plates are marked ''W&C SCOTT & SON''. The original, checkered straight grip wood stock & forend are excellent. There are contusions, scrapes & dings. The belly of the stock has a blank silver circle initial plate. At one point the stock may have been lightly sanded, the buttplate & initial plate are slightly proud to the wood, but the rest of the wood to metal contact points are flush. The barrels have toned to a brown patina, with small areas worn to metal grey. The receiver & side plates are case-hardened, retaining very faint case-colors only in heavily protected areas. They have mostly worn to metal grey & toned to brown patina. The receiver, barrel ends, hammers, side plates, break lever, trigger guard & screws all display detailed ornamental scroll engraving. Bores are good, consistently rough & a little dark. The solid rib holds a single front bead. Stock carries a widow's peak smooth metal buttplate. For an 1870's shotgun, this example is still in great condition, it would be a nice addition to a double barrel collection. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 1500 to 3000
