Johnstone, Hammer Double, CAL: 8 Bore, MFG: late 19th century, SN: 175, Break Action SxS Shotgun, 35 5/8'' barrels. The original, checkered & capped pistol grip stock & forend are excellent. There are contusions, minor scrapes & dings. The grip cap & forend inlay appear to be horn & there is a blank silver shield initial plate on the belly of the stock. The thumbprint damascus pattern on the barrels is visible, but faded, revealing a wire twist. The browned finish on the barrels has worn to a mix of original finish & metal grey. The receiver & hammers are case-hardened, retaining faint case-colors in heavily protected areas. The receiver, barrel ends, hammers, break lever, trigger guard, forend metal components & screws all display simple ornamental engraving. There are small bird game scenes on both side plates & a bird vignette on the bottom of the receiver. Bores are good, with intermittent pitting towards the muzzle. The solid rib holds a single front bead. Stock carries a grooved buttplate. Double triggers. Another nice large bore shotgun. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 1400 to 2800
