Springfield Armory, Model: 1866 Trapdoor, Cal: 50-70, MFG: 1866-68, S/N: N/A, Breach loading single shot, 21 7/8'' barrel. The checkered, straight wrist wood stock is very good, has light dings, dents, scratches, & wear from use/age. The metal finish rates 60% overall with spots toned to a brown patina & spots of gun metal gray. Top of breech block is marked, ''1866'' & and a eagle head, left side of receiver is marked with a eagle head, lock plate is marked ''1864'', US eagle, ''U.S.'', ''SPRINGFIELD''. Bore is good, bright with roughness/pitting, blade front sight with a three position, U-notch/aperture rear sight marked ''3'', ''5'', ''7''. Metal buttplate marked ''US'' with light wear. Side bar sling mount. The rifle was originally a full length military 1866 trapdoor rifle which was the second iteration of the Allin designed breech loading conversion of the 1863 Springfield rifle, when it was surplus' d it was cut down and made into a sporting rifle either by a company or by a person.
