WWI Era Colt, Model 1911- U.S. ARMY, CAL: 45 ACP, Semi-Auto, MFG: 1918, WWI era, SN: 248105, 5'' barrel. This pistol is fitted with the double diamond checkered walnut grips, which are very good, with minor contusions. The right grip is stamped with 1/2'' initials of a backwards ''J'' & a normal ''L''. It has the two-line, two-block Colt factory address & patent dates markings of ''PATENTED APR.20.1897. SEPT.9.1902. DEC.19.1905. FEB.14.1911. AUG.19.1913'' followed by ''COLT'S PT.F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD.CT.U.S.A.''. The left side of the frame is stamped ''UNITED STATES PROPERTY''. The right side of the slide is stamped ''MODEL OF 1911. U.S. ARMY''. The right side of the small SN markings of ''No. 248105'', with the circled ''JM'' monogram of Ordnance Inspector above the magazine release. The rear face of the slide, as well as the top of the receiver, are all correctly stamped with the ''H'' provisional inspection mark of Frank L. Hosmer, the U.S. Government inspector who started inspecting these at approximately pistol SN ''400''. The pistol comes with two magazines, one marked ''COLT 45 AUTO'', the other unmarked. The extra unmarked mag had rust pitting that was scrubbed. There is a lanyard loop on the underside of the strap base. The metal blue finish is 70% overall, with most of the wear to the straps & forward portion of slide. The bore is very good, with spotty areas of light roughness. Appears mechanically sound. This is a very nice U.S. ARMY Colt Model 1911 semi-automatic pistol. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 1500 to 3000
