UNCOMMON, Ruger, Model M77, RARE CAL MARKING: 280 Rem or 7mm Exp. Rem, MFG: 1981, SN: 74-89154, Bolt Action Rifle, 22'' barrel. The original checkered & capped pistol grip wood stock is excellent. There are some minor scrapes & dings to the original finish. The original metal blue finish rates 98% overall. The receiver finish has typically toned plum. Bore is excellent. No open sight provisions. The receiver has integrated scope ring slots. Sling studs. Stock has factory Ruger solid recoil pad. Uncommon dual caliber marked barrel. The .280 Remington cartridge is also known as 7mm-06 & 7mm Express Remington. Remington renamed the .280 cartridge in late 1978 to 7mm-06 Remington, but just before the end of the year they renamed it again to 7mm Express in an attempt to increase sales. This change resulted in people confusing 7mm-06 with the 7mm Remington Magnum, and Remington changed the name back to .280 in 1981. With the ammo manufactured under several names, after Remington flip-flopped on the name, Ruger wanted the owner to know ammo marked either way was ok to use, hence the dual caliber marking.
