RARE Winchester Model 1897 SOLID FRAME, CAL: 12 GA, MFG: 1902, SN: 155751, Pump Action Shotgun, 2 3/4'', Choke: FULL. 32'' The Winchester Model 1897 was designed by American firearms inventor John Moses Browning. The Model 1897 was an improved version of the model 1893 & was first listed for sale in the November 1897 Winchester catalog as a 12 ga solid frame, furnished with 30'' barrels. The 12 ga takedown model was added in Oct 1898, & the 16 ga takedown in Feb 1900. After the takedown versions were added, very few solid frame examples were ordered & produced, making this 1902 production example with a special order barrel length fairly rare & collectible. The original round knob pistol grip wood stock & corncob forearm are excellent, as lightly sanded & nicely refinished. They carry the remains of small handling marks or contusions. The metal original finish is worn, with remains of original finish in protected areas & the entire metal surface is coated with a hand applied brown patina, with even coverage & giving it a nice age appearance. Bore is good. Barrel holds a single front bead. Buttstock carries a widow's peak metal buttplate. LOP: 13 3/4''. Comes with a Cody Winchester Factory Records Letter confirming configuration & dates.
