Springfield Armory, Model: 1888, Cal: .45-70, MFG: 1891, S/N: 526963, trapdoor breach loader, 32 1/2'' barrel. The straight wrist wood stock is very good, with light nicks, dings, dents, scratches, & wear from use/age, ''SWP'', ''1892'' in box inspectors cartouche in left side of stock above trigger, ''P'' in circle cartouche in bottom of stock right behind lower tang, right side of stock is marked, ''7'', ''961'', top of stock by Butt plate is marked in red, ''K'', ''61'', left side of stock is marked ''7''. The metal finish on the barrel rates 35% & has toned to a even black/brown color with spots brown patina & scratches, breach block has toned to a gunmetal gray, lock plate has toned to a brown patina. Top of breach block is marked ''U.S.'', ''MODEL'', ''1884'', rear of receiver is marked with S/N, left side of barrel is marked ''V'', ''P'', over a Eagles head. Bore is very good, bright with little wear. Blade front sight with Buffington, U-notch/aperture ladder rear sight marked 2 to 20. Metal trapdoor Butt plate with wear, patina, & cleaned pitting, top of tang is marked ''US'', bottom sling swivels with stacking swivel, comes with rod bayonet/cleaning rod. Hammer spring appears to be broken, hammer does not go Forword when it is cocked back & trigger is pulled, would need a gunsmith to fix. A nice collectors piece with unit marking on stock & Butt plate. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 300 to 600
