Waffenfabrik Bern (Swiss), Model: M1889, Cal: 7.5x53.5mmR, MFG: 1891-97, S/N: 116238, Bolt action straight pull rifle, 22'' cut down barrel. The cut down straight wrist wood stock is good, stock has been sanded, remolded in places, ''B'' above circle with ''1'' inside. The metal finish rates 80% overall with spots of patina & thinned bluing. Left side of receiver has been drilled & tapped for a scope, S/N, & Swiss cross, barrel is marked with S/N, Swiss cross, & other proof marks, Magazine cutoff has been modified to be a magazine release, S/N matched bolt, magazine, barrel, & Butt plate. Bore is excellent, bright & mirror like with little wear. Blade front sight with tangent modified aperture rear sight, base marked 300 to 500, aperture sight block has been added to older V-notch, top of base wings have been ground down to the 500 mark. Steel butt plate with light brown patina, upper tang is marked ''6'', Swiss cross, ''238''. Bottom sling swivels. This is a rare M1889 in it un-modified configuration, the M1889 was the Switzerland's first smokeless rifle, & was the first rifle in the line of the Schmidt-Rubin straight pull rifles. This rifle will chamber modern 7.5 Swiss ammo but the action is not strong enough for the increase of pressure, it is recommend to shave down modern 7.5 Swiss cartridges to the correct length and hand down-loaded them to shoot through this rifle.
