Smith & Wesson, Perfected, CAL: 38 S&W, MFG: 1909-1920, SN: 46174, Double Action Top Break Revolver, 6'' barrel. Manufactured from 1909 to 1920, this is a unique top break, with both a barrel latch & a side thumb release on the left side of the frame. It is also the only Smith & Wesson top break revolver to have the trigger guard integral to the frame rather than a separate piece. Two line address/patent dates on top of the barrel rib flanked by Maltese crosses, ''38 S.&W. CTG'' flanked by Maltese crosses on the left side & the S&W logo on the right side plate. The original S&W marked, diamond & checkered hard rubber grips are very good, but with smoothing of the checkering, some minor nicks & a flaking chip on the bottom butt of the left grip. The original metal blue finish rates 75% on the barrel & frame, with most of the wear on the right side of the barrel. The cylinder has worn mostly gun metal gray, with the majority of the original finish remaining in the flutes. Case- hardened trigger & hammer. Bore is very good. Integral blade front & small notch rear sights. A fairly rare model & collectible example. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 600 to 1000
