Winchester, Model 1866, Fourth Variation, .44 RF Cal., MFG. Antique, SN: 158641, Lever Action Rifle, 24 1/4'' Octagon barrel, Full mag. The wood stocks are very good & solid, despite a 1 3/4'' stress crack at the left side of wrist emanating from the receiver. The stocks display numerous small nicks, gouges & contusions, & have darkened appearance from age, use & oils. The metal finish on the barrel, mag tube, lever, forend cap & buttplate have fully toned to a full coverage dark chocolate patina. The brass receiver have a darker brown mustard tone & some staining. There are numerous small nicks, contusion & abrasions on the barrel, receiver & other metal parts all consistent with western frontier use. The receiver is missing one sideplate screw & appears to have at least one additional screw replaced. Bore is good, with some pitting & roughness amongst solid rifling. Barrel mounted with an adjustable rear & pinched blade front sight. Rifle has the sliding trapdoor crescent buttplate. Consistent with the 4th model, it has the italic SN stamped on the end of the lower tang. Comes with a Cody Winchester Factory Records letter confirming configuration & dates. This is a rustic survivor 1866, displaying all the character of authentic frontier use. Still a great antique brass rifle. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 2500 to 5000
