CUSTOM Remington Rolling Block Creedmoor Long Range Target Rifle chambered in 44 S Cal., MFG: 1873-79, SN: 5834, 34 3/8'' Octagon to round barrel. The bottom of the barrel in front of the forend cap is marked ''44 S'', usually this is .44-77 Rem, but could be .44-90. The top of the barrel is marked ''E. REMINGTON & SONS.ILION.N.Y.'' & the serial # is marked on the lower tang, on the underside of the barrel under the forend & on the buttend of the forend. The firearm has a blued 1/3rd octagon to round barrel, which has worn to mostly gun metal gray with a thin brown patina. The breechblock, hammer & trigger are blued. The receiver appears to have been case-hardened, but all the case-colors have faded to gray. The rifle is mounted with a smooth forearm, with the standard Creedmoor iron cap. The scalloped & checkered pistol grip stock carries an ebony insert in the base of the pistol grip. The stocks are excellent & solid, as having been lightly sanded & oiled long ago. All lines of checkering on the pistol grip are fully present, but have smoothed with use. The stocks have a few small handling marks & a couple small spots of fill on the left side of the stock. The stock caries a widow's peak smooth metal buttplate. The upper tang of the receiver carries a tall Lyman tang sight with large aperture, while the barrel carries a flip-up ivory bead front globe sight. Bore is excellent & bright. It is estimated that only 500 of these rifles ere produced. Excellent eye appeal on this highly collectible target rifle. Antique No FFL Req. - Value: 3000 to 6000
