Winchester, Model 70, CAL: 220 SWIFT, MFG: 1954, SN: 286401, Bolt Action Rifle, 26'' RARE tapered STAINLESS STEEL barrel. The factory checkered & flat pistol grip Monte Carlo walnut stock is excellent. The stock carries the original finish & has an added thin layer of protective finish or touch-up. The stock has a bedding or fill material in the ''C'' channel of the stock lining the underside of the barrel. This could just be result of a sharp shooter bedding the stock or it could be the result of utilizing a replacement factory stock with a wider ''C'' channel that required extra material to fill the gap. It is not distracting & presents well. The stainless steel barrel & receiver have the matching the stippled gray metal finish rating 98%. Stainless steel barrels are much rarer & more desired amongst collectors. The standard blue finish on the floorplate & trigger guard rates 80%, with some spotting on the floorplate. Bore is excellent & bright, with crisp rifling. The receiver carries scope mount bases, while the barrel has an open rear dovetail & hooded front sight. Buttstock carries a widow's peak checkered metal buttplate. Sling loop in the belly of the stock, sling stud with detachable swivel. While nearly 20,000 standard grades were made in 220 Swift, only a small percentage were produced with the stainless steel barrel. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 1000 to 2000
