C.S. Shattuck, Model ''American'', CAL:10 Ga., MFG: early 1890's, SN: 638, Break Action Single Shot Shotgun, 34'' barrel. The round knob wood stocks are fair & solid, despite a 4'' & 5'' crack on each side of the wrist emanating from the back of the receiver. There is a silver pin on the right side of wrist adding stability. There stocks exhibit several small scrapes, scratches & contusions to the original finish. The browned finish on the damascus twist barrel is very good. The case-hardened receiver has worn mostly gun metal gray with a spotty thin brown patina. Top of receiver is stamped ''AMERICAN LONDON WEST''. Bore is good, but with roughness & visible striations. The front trigger serves as the break lever for the barrel. The barrel holds a single front bead. Stock carries a smooth metal buttplate. Few of these early large gauge shotguns have survived, so even examples with lot of wear & use still are in high demand amongst collectors of these shotguns. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 500 to 1000
