Winchester, Model 1866, Fourth Variation, .44 RF Cal., MFG. Antique, SN: 150009, Lever Action Rifle, 24 1/4'' Octagon barrel, Full mag. The wood stocks are good & solid, despite a few very short stress cracks at the wrist against the receiver & emanating from the ends of the tangs. There is also a tight 3'' hairline crack at the tip of the forend. The stock was sanded & refinished with a dark finish long ago. The forend appears to retain the original finish, although with loss do to use & wear. The stocks display numerous small nicks, gouges & contusions, & scratches, most of which is found on the forend. The metal finish on the barrel, mag tube, lever, forend cap & buttplate have fully toned to a spotty dark chocolate patina, with lost of light pitting or speckling thought. The brass receiver has a darker brown mustard tone, with black spots & staining. The receiver is missing a left sideplate screw & several other screws look like they are replacements. Bore is good, but with some pitting & roughness amongst solid rifling. Barrel mounted with an adjustable rear & a long brass blade front sight, with lead filling the space between the blade & the slot in the base of the sight. Rifle has the flip-up trapdoor crescent buttplate. Consistent with the 4th model, it has the italic SN stamped on the end of the lower tang. Lever locking lug is a replacement. This is a rustic survivor 1866, displaying all the character of authentic frontier use. Still a great antique brass rifle. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 2500 to 5000
