Winchester, Model 1886, 40-82 W.C.F., MFG. 1901, SN: 123375, Lever Action Rifle, 26'' Octagon barrel, Full mag. The original straight grip stocks are very good, after having been lightly sanded, cleaned & refinished. There are still some light handling marks or contusions, as there was not much wood loss during the refinishing process. There is a 2'' tight stress crack near the toe & a tiny corner chip at the shoulder of the stock where the top of wrist on the left side where it meets the receiver. The original metal blue finish has approximately 50% coverage of a thinned blue toned to a brown patina. The full length mag appears to be a replacement for an original 2/3rd length mag, as the barrel has the small mag cap notch on the underside flat approximately 11 1/4'' from the end of the barrel & the dovetail cut for the new full length mag retention band is just a bit less than factory crisp. This change would likely go unnoticed at most gun shows as we honestly missed it on the initial assessment of the rifle. The mag matches correctly with a thin brown patina. The receiver, lever & hammer have all faded to a gun metal gray, with a thin & spotty brown patina. The barrel is fitted with the standard adjustable rear & pinched blade front sights. Bore is very good. Stock carries a crescent metal buttplate. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 1000 to 3000
