RARE Winchester, Model 53 TAKE-DOWN, CAL: 44 WCF, MFG: 1924, SN: 362, Lever Action Rifle, 22'' Tapered round barrel. Half mag. In 1924, Winchester introduced the Model 53 lever-action rifle as a modernized version of the model 1892. Production lasted just 8 yrs until 1932, with a very limited production of approximately 25,000. This rifle is a 1st YEAR PRODUCTION, early 3 digit SN. The original straight grip wood stocks are excellent, with minor surface scrapes, contusions & scratches. There is some flaking of the finish on the buttstock along the edge of the buttplate. It appears the original finish on the forend was either touched-up or removed & very nicely refinished, but without wood loss & matches the stock. The metal blue finish on the barrel rates 95%, with small scrapes at the area of the takedown lever. The receiver blue rates 75%, with most thinning wear at the handling points of the belly, which is toning to a light brown/gun metal grey patina. Bore is excellent & bright, with proud rifling. The barrel holds a flat top adjustable rear sight & low profile front sight. Buttstock carries a grooved metal buttplate. A very nice example of a first year, take-down 53 in the very desirable 44 WCF. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 5000 to 9000
