Description

Marlin, Model 1881, marked 45 GOVT (45-70) Cal., MFG. 1881-91 (Antique), SN: 5497, Lever Action Rifle, 28'' Octagon barrel, Full mag. The original wood stocks are vey good & solid, displaying the majority of the original finish. The stocks have several minor contusions, scratches or scrapes. The metal surfaces have worn mostly gun metal gray, with spotty areas of a chocolate brown patina. Double set triggers. Barrel carries the original adjustable rear & a small elongated silver blade front sights. Bore is very good, with some roughness amongst strong rifling. Stock carries a crescent metal buttplate. Action remains tight & smooth. With approximately 20,000 produced in all calibers, these are fairly rare in any found condition. The rifle has a wonderful old West esthetic & is an early era collectible lever. Antique No FFL Req. - Value: 1200 to 2500
