Marlin, Model 1889 ''Safety'', marked 38 W Cal., MFG. 1891 (Antique), SN: 56921, Lever Action Rifle, 24'' Octagon barrel, Full mag., This was Marlin's first lever action with side-ejection. It lead to the model 1894 & eventually to all modern Marlin lever action. The original deluxe checkered & serpentine pistol grip wood stocks are excellent. However, they display several minor handling marks & darkened oil spots from areas where the original finish has worn & thinned. The original metal blue finish is retained at 60% on the receiver, 30% on barrel, while the mag tube & other areas of loss are toning to a thin brown patina. The case-hardened hammer & lever retain some faint smokey outlines of case-colors. The stock carries the original crescent metal buttplate. The rifle is fitted with a Lyman tang sight, while the barrel carries an original adjustable rear & standard front sights. Bore is very good, with strong rifling. Action remains smooth & tight. An excellent example of an original antique deluxe Marlin lever. No FFL Req. - Value: 1500 to 3000
