RARE Mass Arms Co., Edward Maynard Patent, 2nd Model Carbine, (Model 1863), Cal. 50 CAL.. MFG circa 1863-65, Antique, SN: 10915. Single shot lever operated tip-up rifle. 20'' Octagon/round barrel. During the Civil War era, approximately 20,000 Maynard patent breech loading percussion carbines were produced & issued to Union cavalry units. Among those regiments were the 9th & 11th Indiana, & the 11th Tennessee. The right side of frame marked ''MANUFACTURED BY / MASS. ARMS CO. / CHICOPEE FALLS'', left side of frame marked ''EDWARD MAYNARD / PATENTEE / MAY 27, 1851 / DEC. 6, 1859''. Left side of butt stock near receiver stamped with two government cartouches, inspector marked ''S'', breech stamped ''AJN'', & rear sight stamped ''N''. The original straight grip walnut is excellent, with small scratches, scrapes & contusions to the original finish. The barrel has toned to an even brown patina, with some remains of bluing remaining under the brown patina. The receiver has worn & toned to a mix of gun metal gray & a brown patina. Some original blue retained on hammer. Rifle mounted with the original iron folding three-leaf rear sight faintly marked ''1'', ''3'', & ''5'', & blade front sight. Bore is very good, with sharp visible rifling. The pivoting pin shows slot wear, along with other contusions or abrasions to the metal. Lower tang is missing the back screw. The action does lock up tight, but the hammer trigger mechanism is not functioning properly as the trigger & hammer have no spring. This could be the result of missing, broken or simply sprung parts. While this remains an all original & overall very good condition example, due to the repairs need, the rifle is being sold ''AS-IS'' with no returns. Antique, No FFL Req - Value: 300 to 1000
