RARE Winchester Model 54, CAL: 219 Zipper, MFG: 1930, SN: 31287A, Bolt Action Rifle, 24'' barrel. The model 54 was the first successful civilian production run of a centerfire bolt action for Winchester. They are fairly rare model with total production of just over 50,000 in all variations from 1929 to 36. The Model 54 Winchester was catalogued in ten calibers: .22 Hornet, .220 Swift, .250 Savage, .257 Roberts, .270 Winchester, .30-30 Winchester, .30-06 Springfield, & three metric calibers 7X57 MM, 7.65X53 MM, & 9X57 MM. Chamberings other than the ten listed were available on special order. These include .25-35 Winchester, .32 Winchester Special, .35 Whelen,& possibly a few others. During the hard times in the late 1920s & early 1930s, buyers of rifles were not prone to paying for special order items. Consequently, very few Model 54s were produced in other than the ten listed chamberings. That makes this rifle chambered in .219 Zipper extremely rare & sought after by Winchester collectors. The original checkered & flat pistol grip wood stock is excellent, with a few small surface scrapes, contusions or scratches to the original finish. The original metal blue finish rates 95% on the barrel & receiver, while the floorplate & trigger guard rate 60%, toning gray in areas of loss. Bore is excellent, with well defined rifling. The rifle is fitted with an adjustable Lyman 48W receiver sight, along with a Winchester A5 scope on Winchester mounts & rings. The scope comes with original leather lens caps & is in itself a rarity to find these rifle with the early & original Winchester scopes. The scope is mounted in the front factory receiver screws & in the rear barrel dovetail. The front of the barrel holds a ramped blade front sight. Buttstock carries the original widow's peak checkered metal buttplate. Sling loops. All original & high condition examples of model 54 rifles bring high collector value, especially when in very rare calibers such as the 219 Zipper round. FFL or C&R Req - Value: 2500 to 4500
