FANTASTIC CASED Colt, Model Lightning, .22 Cal., MFG. 1901, SN: 63150, Pump Action Rifle, 24'' Tapered octagon barrel, 1/2 mag. Small Frame. Rifle comes with a Colt factory letter specifying configuration & that it was shipped from Colt's U.S. factory to Colt's Patent Fire-Arms MFG. Company London Agency in London England on December 20, 1901, as part of a 9 gun shipment. The rifle carries the correct importation & proofing stampings on the left side of the barrel & receiver. The rifle comes stored in nicely appointed vintage, black stained, wood & canvas lined case, with a brass plate engraved ''Henry Atkins Gun Maker 48 Termyn Street St. James's London SW 1''. The case contains a wood 50 ct cartridge box, stored brass cleaning rod, 7 wildlife targets & saddles for the storage of the scope when removed from rifle. The exterior, interior & latching, handle & lock are all in excellent shape. The original factory stocks on the rifle are excellent, with the outlined, but non-checkered forend. Stocks retain nearly all of the original wood finish, with very few tiny handling marks. The original metal blue finish rates 90% on barrel, 80% on receiver, with additional wear to the mag tube & tangs. Metal toning to a thin brown patina in areas of blue loss. The bottom surface of the receiver has a number of small contusions or abrasions. Bore is excellent. Front of receiver & barrel carry quick release scope blocks for the claw rings, which hold a German Ajack 1.5x scope made by A. Jackenkroll. Small blade dovetailed front sight. Original black plastic buttplate. An excellent & nicely configured example of a Colt .22 pump rifle, which traveled across the pond & back. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 2000 to 4000
