Marlin, Model 1897, .22 Cal., MFG. 1897-1905, SN: 227659, Lever Action Rifle, 24'' Tapered round barrel. Full mag. Early variation of the model 1897, with the rounded top of receiver & 1897 marking on the tang. The straight grip wood stocks are good & solid. The stock appears to a marlin replacement, as the wood does not match correctly or tightly around the upper tang. There is a 2'' & 1'' stress cracks on the right hand side of the wrist emanating from the top & lower tangs. The wood has also been lightly sanded & refinished. There are remnants of minor contusions, scrapes & scuffs to the refinish. The reblued metal finish rates 90% overall. Bore is good, clean & bright, but with thinning rifling. Rifle fitted with an adjustable rear sight missing the elevator & a tall blade front sight. Factory crescent buttplate, Tight action. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 400 to 800
