H.M Quackenbush Model ''Safety Cartridge'', .22 Cal., MFG:1896-1908, SN: NONE, Swing Gate Single Shot Rifle, 18'' round barrel. The Safety Cartridge rifle started production in 1896 to 1920, but a wood forearm was added in 1908. This is the earlier version without the forearm. The original straight grip wood stock is good & solid, having been repaired after a wrist break, sanded & refinished. It has three wood dowels used in the repair, of which the ends can be seen in the belly of the stock. The are very few tiny handling marks remaining after refinish & the stock presents very well. The nickel finish was redone after the metal was buffed polished & prepared. It's retained at over 90%, but coverage is over previous rust pitting or blemishes, & the nickel is starting to spot & dull due to corrosion developing under nickel. Stamping on left side of the receiver remain clear. Bore is clean & good, but with scarring amongst thinning rifling. Barrel is fitted with rear fixed sight & a small post blade front sight. Original early swiss style metal buttplate with nickel finish. Broke off cocking handle. Early example. Due to broken bolt handle & possibly other unseen issues, this rifle is being sold ''AS-IS'', with no returns. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 80 to 150
