Holland & Holland, Double Rifle, CAL: 450/400 2 3/8'', MFG: circa 1880's. SN: 11257 (22000 SN Dates 1899), Break Action SxS Rifle, 26'' barrel. This rifle has been fully & professionally restored. The silver oval plaque on the left side of the stock reads ''TO RAOBAHADUR DADASHEB SURVE PRIME MINISTER KOLHAPUR BY S.R. DESAI OF CHINCHALI''. The side plates are marked ''HOLLAND & HOLLAND''. The right barrel is marked ''HOLLAND & HOLLAND 98 NEW BOND STREET, LONDON'' & the left barrel is marked ''WINNERS OF ALL ''FIELD'' RIFLE TRIALS LONDON 1883'' The checkered, capped pistol grip stocks are excellent. There are two small repaired cracks on either side of the upper tang, small edge chips, a dowel fill where the sling stud was & minor handling marks. There is a blank oval initial plate on the belly of the stock. The metal blue finish on the barrel rates 99%. The front sling provision has been removed. The case-hardened receiver has fully worn to metal gray, with applied brown patina. There are remnants of case-colors on the inside of the receiver on the firing pin face & floor plate. The word ''SAFE'' on all three safety levers is gold inlaid. The receiver, side plates, trigger guard, break lever, cap & forend meal components all display beautiful & intricate ornamental scroll engraving. Bores are very good, appearing slightly grainy. The solid, matted rib holds a 3-tier folding leaf rear sight, with graduations from 50-250 & a beaded blade front sight. Tang safety & separate barrel safeties on both sides of the receiver. Grooved plastic buttplate. This rifle comes with a set of custom made 450-400 2 3/8'' dies. Although this rifle has been restored, it still presents excellently.
