CASED, J.D Dougall, No. 1 Side Lever, CAL: 12GA, MFG: Late 1800's - Early 1900's, SN: 3946, Side Lever Break Action SxS Shotgun, 27'' barrels. This gun has been expertly restored, with the exception of the barrels, which appear to have the original finish. The barrel rib is marked ''BARRELS BY BENJAMIN WILD & SON GUNMAKERS PRICE ST BIRMINGHAM 4''. The full SN can be found on the lower tang, both side of the floor plate & right barrel, under the forearm. Both sides of the receiver are marked ''J.D. DOUGALL''. The checkered straight grip wood stocks are excellent, with crisp re-traced checkering. The original metal blue finish on the barrel rates 85%, with thinning towards the chamber end, revealing metal gray & a thin chocolate patina. The receiver, bottom receiver plate, break lever, trigger guard, forend metal components, screws & barrel rib end are all tastefully & intricately engraved in ornamental scroll. The receiver plate, trigger guard, break lever, safety switch & forend metal components have all been re-blued. The silver receiver is polished. Gold ''SAFE'' above the safety lever. Bores are excellent, with mirrored appearance. The solid rib holds a single front bead. Stock has a Decelerator solid black rubber recoil pad. Comes with original leg of mutton leather case, with red interior. Correct J.D Dougall interior label. Included is the original cleaning rod & glass oil container with tin lid. Case condition is good, with edge wear & split seams. Brass hardware on the corners & blank brass circle plate on the lid. Replaced leather handle. A beautifully restored shotgun from a high quality gun maker in the UK. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 3000 to 6000
