Springfield Armory, Model: 1873, Cal: .45-70, MFG: 1882, S/N: 183154, Single Shot trapdoor rifle, 32 1/2'' barrel. The straight wrist walnut stock is very good as being lightly sanded & refinished. Stock has various small nicks, dings, dents, & scratches from use/age. The belly of the stock has a faint circle ''P'' firing proof stamp. The left side of the stock has a very faint inspectors cartouche. The metal has been buffed to a gun metal gray with areas of rust speckling & brown patina. The underside of the breech block has worn but very clear remains of the case hardening. The barrel is marked ''V'', over ''P'', over a eagles head. ''R'', ''P''. The top of the breech block is marked ''U.S.'', ''MODEL'', ''1873''. The rear of the receiver is marked with the S/N. the lock plate is marked with a American eagle holding wheat, & ''U.S.'', ''SPRINGFIELD''. both barrel bands are marked with a ''U'' on the left side. The bore is good. Its bright with a few areas of light pitting/roughness, amongst thinned rifling. The barrel holds a small, blade front sight with a tangent/ladder tight U-notch rear sight marked 1 to 5 on the base & 6 to 12 on the top of the ladder. Both the base & ladder of the rear sight are marked with a ''R''. The stock carries a steel buttplate that's worn to a gun metal gray. Has areas of patina & stock varnish. The upper tang is marked ''US''. Rifle has both sling loops/front stacking loop. Rifle is missing the cleaning rod. Antique No FFL Req - Value: 700 to 1400
