Holland & Holland was one of the three factory's/company's that converted No4 Mk1 rifles into Sniper rifles. They converted the most rifles at over 21,000. The vast majority of converted rifles were made by BSA, but they converted some Stevens-Savage & Maltby made rifles. The semi-pistol grip wood stock is excellent with only a few minor dings & dents. The cheek riser is a different tone of wood & might be a modern replacement. The bottom of the wrist is marked ''SL'', ''N'', ''74'', & two British proofs. The belly of the stock is marked ''S51'' which is the wartime code for Holland & Holland. The bottom of the stock near the muzzle is marked ''SL'', the S/N, & a British proof. The top of the wrist is marked ''22526. The black metal finish has compete coverage & rates 90% with areas of thinning & wear. The top of the wrist band is stamped with proof marks. The left side of the wrist band is marked ''M47 C'' which is the wartime MFG code for BSA Shirley, ''1944'', the S/N, ''TR'' which stands for Telescopic rifle, meaning it was more accurate than the standard infantry rifle & was selected for conversion to a sniper. The left side of the receiver is marked ''NO.4 MK T'' the ''NO.4 MK'' marking is very faint barely legible while the ''T'' mark is clear & the edges are crisp. The left side of the receiver, right under the bolt face is marked ''S'', this mark indicates that the iron sights have been checked for zero before it was sent to Holland & Holland for its sniper conversion. The receiver band is marked ''ENGLAND'', & has a British proof. The right side of the barrel, by the muzzle is stamped with import marks. The scope mount is marked ''AP1217''. The lower & upper, rear scope rings are marked ''260''. The lower & upper , front scope rings are marked ''261''. The bore is excellent. Its bright & mirror like with almost no visible wear. Rifle has 5 groove rifling. The barrel holds a wide blade front sight with protective ears. The rear of receiver has a flip up, aperture ladder sight that's marked 2 to 13. rifle has mounted a No. 32 Mk1 scope that's marked ''TEL. SIGHTING'', ''NO.32 MK I'', a overlapped double ''W'' stamp standing for the W. Watson & Son company, ''1944 NO14342'', ''OS 466A'', & a upward facing arrow. The recital is clear. The stock carries a aluminum trapdoor buttplate. The trapdoor has nothing inside. Rifle has both bottom sling loops. Rifle comes with a green scope carrying case that S/N matched to the scope & the scope mount that's on the rifle. Inside the case is a leather lens cover & a scope adjustment tool. A excellent example of a original WW2 British sniper. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 3000 to 6000
