B.S.A. Shirley, Model: SHTLE III* ( SMLE No.1 Mk.3*), Cal: .303 British, MFG: 1911-35, S/N: A985, Bolt action rifle, 25'' barrel. This rifle originally was made between 1911 to 1935 & in 1944 it went through a factory refurb & the date stamp was over stamped 1944. then after the war, in 1953 it went through another factory refurb. The semi-pistol grip wood stock rates very good as being cut down, sanded, & Painted with a wood color paint. The stock has a few scuffs, scratches, dings, & dents. No visible cartouches on the stock. The black paint metal finish would have been added when it was refurbished in 1953 & rates 90% overall with areas of wear & scratches. The right side of the wrist band is marked with a crown over ''GR'', ''B'' (the remains of the BSA MFG mark after all the factory refurbs), ''1944'', ''SHTLE'', ''III*''. The left side of the receiver band is marked ''ENGLAND The left side of the receiver is marked ''FTR 1953''. The receiver band is marked with proof stamps & the S/N. the top rear of the barrel is marked with the BSA three rifle logo over ''B S A''. The safety is marked ''III''. Other smaller parts of rifle are marked with British proof marks. The S/N on the bolt matches the one on the rifle. The bore is very good. Its bright & mirror like with a few small areas of roughness. The barrel holds a skinny barleycorn front sight with a tangent, V-notch rear sight marked 2 to 20. the stock carries a brass trapdoor buttplate. The trapdoor has nothing inside. The rifle has both bottom sling loops. Rifle comes with a aftermarket magazine. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 150 to 350
