Colt, New Service Model 1909 Transition, CAL: 38 WCF (38-40), MFG: 1922, SN: 316955, Double Action Revolver, 5 1/2'' barrel. During the transition from the ''OLD MODEL'' to ''NEW MODEL'', a steel block was installed between the hammer and firing pin. The steel block would lower when the pistol is cocked, when not cocked the steel block is in the up position to block the hammer from striking the firing pin if dropped. Old Model serial numbers 0-21000. Mfg. 1898-1909. New Model's added the ''positive lock'', serial numbers 21000-348000. Mfg. 1909-1943, which this example falls under. The Colt checkered hard rubber grips are excellent. The metal blue finish on the barrel rates 90%, with holster wear at the muzzle, 95% on the frame, 85% on the trigger guard, with concentrated wear to the backstrap & 90% on the cylinder, with holster wear. Bore is excellent. Integral notch rear sight & dorsal fin blade front sight. Lanyard loop. A nice example of a 1909 Transition Model. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 1000 to 1600
