CASED, Smith & Wesson, Schofield Model of 2000 - 3rd Model Schofield, CAL: .45 S&W, MFG: Modern, SN: GWS1509, Single Action Revolver, 7'' barrel. The smooth walnut grips are excellent. The metal blue finish rates 99% overall on the barrel, frame & cylinder. The back-strap is marked '' MAJ. GEN. WM. S. ROSECRANS''. The case-hardened metal components retain excellent case-colors. Bore is excellent. Integral v-notch rear sight & blade front sight. Comes in factory hard case, with matching end label & related paperwork. This 3rd Model Schofield is a modern top break, features the design concepts of the original Model 3 Schofield while incorporating the technical & engineering advantages of the last 125 years. This is made by the S&W Custom Shop & has never been fired according to the consignor.
HISTORY: General Rosecrans commanded the Army of the Cumberland in our civil war. His story is not well known, but the known books with information about what he and his soldiers did are impressive. In the post civil war war era, the efforts of General Rosecrans in the development of Southern California are a good deal more positive than many of his peers of the same period. Rosecrans Boulevard in San Diego, Fort Rosecrans, and Rosecrans National Cemetery all are named for him. Ultimately, the pistol was ordered as a symbolic token for the family.
