Texas Longhorn Arms, Grovers Improved No. 5, CAL: 45 Colt, MFG: Modern, SN: K802, Single Action Revolver, 5 1/2'' barrel. Designed by gunsmith Bill Grover of Texas Longhorn Arms as an improvement on famed six gun shooter & gunsmith Elmer Keith's #5SAA revolver. The top of the barrel is marked ''Grovers Improved Number ''Five''. The top of the frame is marked ''Texas Longhorn Arms, Inc. / Richmond Texas''. The frame is marked ''K'' over ''802'' ahead of the trigger guard. The revolver was designed by Grover to be loaded & unloaded from the right hand with the loading gate and ejector rod on the left side. Even the cylinder rotates in a counter clockwise manner as opposed to the more common clockwise motion traditionally found in revolvers. The wood grips are excellent. The original metal blue finish on the barrel rates 99%. The frame rates 99%, toned to an attractive plum patina. Bore is near mint. Adjustable rear sight & elevated blade front sight.
HISTORY (from consignor): Bill Grover made this pistol for right handed shooters as the loading gate and ejection rod are on the left side of the weapon so a right handed shooter does not have to switch hands to reload it as they do with the Colt 1873. The metallurgy and machining are well above industry standards. The finish, cylinder retention system, floating firing pin, sights and trigger pull are second to none. The action is so smooth that accuracy at 100 yards and beyond is possible. Elmer Keith built his Number 5 in 44 magnum, but a skilled reloader can obtain the same down range power by adjusting bullet weight and powder charge. FFL Req. - Value: 1500 to 3500
