SCARCE, Sprague & Marston, 6-Shot Pepperbox, CAL: .31, MFG: circa 1850-60, SN: 49, Double Action Percussion Pistol, 3 5/8'' barrel cluster. The barrel is marked ''SPRAGUE & MARSTON NEW YORK'', & ''WARRANTED CAST STEEL''. The top of the hammer is marked ''W.W MARSTON'', the left side marked ''PATENTED 1849'' & the right side is marked ''NEW YORK''. The inside of the trigger guard is marked ''K49''. The cylinder between two nipples is marked ''K''. The wood grips are excellent, with scrapes, nicks, dings & have darkened with protective oils added over time. The barrel cluster has worn to metal gray & toned to a brown patina. The frame has worn to metal gray. The frame displays simple decorative floral leaf engraving. There is consistent light pitting throughout the metal surfaces. Bores are fair to good, all are rough, with some being more pitted than others. No sights. Nipple condition is poor, with 4 of 6 being broken. The mechanical functions are good, the barrel cluster rotates when the trigger is pulled & it also spins freely.
